Owls

I have been overwhelmed by the high standard of work being completed at home.

This week we have been developing our understanding of formal language and writing letters of complaint. It is very clear that the children are frustrated about not being able to see their friends and grandparents, but they understand that social distancing  in this battle against Covid 19.

The children have also been busy making their own Easter Gardens and taking amazing photographs.

Swifts

The Swifts have been busy throughout the week, it has been really lovely to see all their home learning activities. Keep up the good work.

Larks

Lots of impressive work from Larks once again this week. It is wonderful to see everybody keeping busy and active with a range of tasks. Well done!

Robins

Another week of some great successful home learning, who needs Mr Logan! Thank you for the continued support and for sharing the Robins work with me, it really does brighten up my day when I see their learning.

Robins

Wow! The Robins work completed at home has been amazing. Many thanks for using the home learning packs and completing the tasks at home. It looks like they have been enjoyed and it has been lovely to see all their work being shared with me via Weduc. I have some examples of super sentence writing, using descriptive words and amazing alien drawings. Well done Robins and I hope you are looking forward to next weeks Home Learning tasks.

‘Bee Kind!’

Lots of people have been ‘caught being kind this week!’ Our honey jar will soon be full.

Swifts

What a busy week we have had again in the Swifts class! We began our week reflecting on our Science experiments and tried them again considering our variables for the experiment and our conclusions. After this we learnt from testing the same material in different conditions that this helped the result greatly as we rechecked batteries, light bulbs and wires. We also began report writing this week and developed our character descriptions of Oliver by writing adjectives inside a giant cut out of Oliver. We really enjoyed drawing around each other to create Oliver!

Finally, our Swifts class would like to give a huge congratulations to Jessica who came 4th in the cross-country racing! We are so proud of you Jessica! Well done!

Robins

This week started off with a trip to the Bowes Museum grounds because we received a letter from the aliens that stated they needed our help to find their missing underpants. It was a secret mission! We found lots of underpants and Mr Logan posted them back to the aliens.

As it was a secret mission, we said we were going on a Spring walk and searching for different signs of Spring. The Robins found flowers, buds, green leaves and bird’s nests.

Owls

After close examination of art work by a local famous British Artist David Hockney, we ‘Hocknified’ photographs of Teesdale’s beautiful landscape.

Larks

The Larks have enjoyed thinking about continuing the ‘Katie In’ books to include a visit to Barnard Castle! They took a trip down to the town with Mr. Dougall, Mrs. Lewandowski and Mrs. Fells on Wednesday and saw many of the local landmarks.

Lent Tent

This week we have given up some of our time to ‘Stop and Pray’ in the Lent Tent. We enjoyed praying in quiet, creative ways.

World Book Day

We all had a good fun this week, celebrating World Book Day in our pyjamas or costumes. It is wonderful to see the children reading for pleasure and sharing a good book.

Owls

This week we have been learning about the cost of living. We were shocked to learn that 20% of the money we will earn is given back to the government as Tax and found out what the taxes will pay for.

In Science we have dissected flowers to identify and name the reproductive parts of a plant.

We have made waterwheels in DT

PC Preet and PC Liz came into school to talk to us about Internet Safety.

Robins

The Robins enjoyed giving up their time to ‘Stop and Pray’ for Lent this week. During this time, they were given short activities to help them understand the journey through Lent. They didn’t give in to temptation whilst reading the tempted prayer, they had to pick the different colour Smarties from each line of the prayer and put it in the jar.

For World Book Day the Robins enjoyed wearing their PJ’s or costumes and we couldn’t resist a class selfie!

Swifts

What a busy week we have had in the Swifts class! We started the week experimenting with different materials to find out which materials were good conductors of electricity and which were not. We learnt so much and it was so exciting watching the light bulb turn on when we clipped our crocodile clips to a pair of scissors! We then began in maths with a game of match snap! It was very fun to play and we even discovered rules when multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000! We feel very confident with those calculations! We even attempted decimal calculations and it was fantastic! We created speeches in English in the role of the police officer in Oliver Twist and created a courtroom in class to decide whether Oliver was guilty or not guilty for stealing. We really enjoyed our persuasive writing activity and performing our speeches in class! We were also very lucky to be invited to a local church to take part in World Day of Prayer and we loved it. We enjoyed performing our liturgical dance. We can’t wait for another exciting week!

Larks

The Larks enjoyed making use of the Lent Tent this week as they visited in groups to ‘Stop and Pray’, as our lovely purple banner tells us. They also thought about what they are giving up for Lent in their Prayer Journals.

They were very enthusiastic about using the BeeBots to move around a grid. They used them in Topic to navigate to London landmarks then in English to navigate to an adverb sentence starter to improve their writing!

Larks

The Larks had fun recreating the actions of Londoners during the Great Fire of London. They were given their roles in secret so the rest of the class could guess what they were doing later on in the lesson. Different props were used from inside the classroom. We had people rowing to safety, carrying small children, putting up tents in fields away from the fire and taking books to St. Paul’s Cathedral, to name a few!

Swifts

Another busy week for Swifts! We have been learning about learning about Ash Wednesday and our Lenten journey. During RE we created a Lent jar and discussed the importance of honesty and forgiveness. We also took part in the 500-word challenge. What an amazing challenge it was! We worked so hard creating our  short stories and enjoyed reading them out in class! We also began learning about equivalent fractions and decimals and creating a matching card game matching the fractions with the decimals. We loved mixing the decimal potion and can not wait to create more potions next week!

Robins

Robins on the Moon! The Robins have been very busy transforming their classroom into Outer Space by adding a rocket, aliens, dark box, Bob’s Souvenir Shop and Moon landing. This half term we will be learning about space, planets, stars and rockets. The classroom has been a hive of activity, inspired by the interests of the children. They are really enjoying the topic so far, the display shows some of their independent work.

On Tuesday we couldn’t resist flipping pancakes, but the Robins were more excited about eating them. They all tucked in and loved them.

Lent

The altar has been dressed in purple for Lent, we are journeying through Lent to prepare for Easter.

Owls

This week a selection of the Owls have visited Kings Court Nursing Home to sketch portraits of the residents at the home, but it is also an opportunity for the children and residents to have ‘a catch up’ and a good chat! We feel this is such an important community link and visit our elderly friends once per month.

Swifts

What a super week we have had in the Swifts class! We created pizzas using our equivalent fractions skills to work out the pizza problems for our recipes and toppings! We had so much fun and we definitely think our pizzas tasted amazing!

We also continued in PE with our social development and balance with some gymnastic positions we learnt arabesque, half jump and shoulder stand!

We also watched a video on E Safety and decided to create our own class performances, teaching each other safety rules about the internet. We have had a brilliant term and can’t wait to come back after the half term!

Owls

The Owls had a wonderful trip to the Bowes Museum to learn more about the artist, Norman Cornish. The children were able to research and observe his work in the galleries and then they created their own versions of his work using quick sketch and oil pastels.

In science this week, they created bridges using only paper and split pins. They then tested how many cars they could load onto the bridge. They became very competitive and had such fun.

Larks

A selection of pictures from a few different activities from the Larks this week. We started the week with a Science experiment using the senses. The faces pulled when tasting the lemon were a sight to behold! We started looking at shapes in Maths, too. The Cinquain poems studied in English were enjoyable to read and even more enjoyable to act out and recite together! Finally, some of the Year 1s had fun playing Connect 4 with the ‘se’ digraph (making the ‘z’ sound, as in ‘cheese’ and ‘pause’) in Phonics!

Robins

The Robins had such a giggle when they created their Valentines Day cards. They chose a design that created a heart using a print of their feet. Mrs Tallentire was in fits of laughter as she painted their feet to create the cards. The children loved it, as you can see from the pictures.

They were very excited on Thursday this week! It snowed and they couldn’t wait to get outside. We decided to paint pictures in the snow using paint to create some wondeful designs and patterns.
